Nunatak wins WIWO Award Best of Consulting 2019
For a change, the corks of the bubbly bottles are popping in our house: We were awarded “Best of Consulting Mittelstand” in the category “Pro Bono” by WirtschaftsWoche (WIWO). The winner was our project for the German School of Journalism (DJS).
Groundbreaking consulting is a matter of course
The day before yesterday in the Düsseldorf InterContinental on the Kö, the WIWO selected The Nunatak Group as one of the best management consultancies in Germany, from a large number of applicants. Together with Jan-Henning Jestädt and Zalina Kalisanova, our Managing Partner and Co-Founder Robert Jacobi accepted the special award presented by Konrad Fischer (WIWO Head of Innovation) as “Best of Consulting Mittelstand 2019” in the “Pro Bono” category.
The project of our Nunatakeers convinced the jury completely: They developed a concept for a new, attractive look and above all a new financing model for the German School of Journalism (DJS) in Munich in order to be able to continue to guarantee the training there free of charge.
This is a matter that is especially close to Robert’s heart – after all, he completed his journalistic training here and has remained in contact with headmistress Henriette Löwisch ever since. “In times of fake news and exaggerated criticism, good journalistic training is essential for the media industry to bring the facts to light,” says our Managing Partner.
The importance of journalistic independence and quality is something that everyone claims to be in favor of, but the DJS’s experience is that fewer and fewer people want to support it – in recent years it has become more and more of a challenge to find sponsors. This is critical, because in the past the DJS had financed itself exclusively through fixed membership fees from publishers and broadcasters, associations, companies, and foundations in the sponsoring association.
We developed a plan to secure the financing of the school until 2024 without charging tuition fees or reducing performance. Alumni play an important role here: They were called upon to join the sponsoring association. In addition, Robert and his team developed a new system that is strongly based on volunteers. This allows the alumni to determine their own contribution level within a certain range.
Result: Within a very short time, the income of the DJS increased by 25 percent. In the future, the DJS also plans to set up its own foundation in order to win further sponsors.
